![]() The game could run at more than playable performance levels on a PS4 (though still not enough to satisfy certification requirements), but typical gameplay on Switch would definitely hit serious framerate drops regularly. All of that inline assembly would have to be rewritten, which might be a pretty significant undertaking.Įven if that weren't true, the Switch is also very weak even by console standards - the different architecture, both CPU and GPU, make the comparison difficult and subjective, but an optimistic estimate puts it around roughly half the horsepower of a standard PS4. Not a problem for the PS4 or the XB1, but the Switch has an ARM processor. This means the codebase will only ever run on x86-64 CPUs. It's extremely likely that the developers have made extensive use of inline assembly for optimization. So far, Factorio has only been released on x86-64 platforms. But, there's even bigger problems for the Switch. The game is, even in concept, extremely CPU-heavy, to the point that porting to any console is effectively impossible, as it wouldn't have a prayer of meeting the manufacturer's performance guarantee requirements. But that's a moot point, as there's technical problems that burn it to the ground while it's still on the whiteboard. Originally 'a garage company' of 2 programmers and 1 graphician, with an interesting idea grew to a team of 30 in-house professionals and contributors around the world. Our office is located in Prague, Czech Republic. I could see a control scheme combining the touchscreen with joycon controls working, not as well as a mouse but it could be workable. Wube Software is a bunch of geeky programmers and artists that bring you Factorio.
